Good predictions for Björk at Cannes

"I would be surprised if Björk was not chosen best
actress here at Cannes, and I am going so far as to
predict that she will be nominated for an Oscar,"
says Peter Aalbek Jensen, the Danish film producer,
who is best known for the Dogma films and for
putting Denmark on the international film-making
map.

Lars Von Trier's film, "Dancer in the Dark," stars
Björk in the leading role, and she also wrote the
music for it. The film is an international project,
partly funded by the Icelandic Film Fund. Icelandic
surrealist poet Sjón wrote the words for Björk's
songs and Icelander Karl Júlíusson designed the set.
Björk currently graces the cover of French film
magazine "Studio."

"Dancer in the Dark" has a good chance of receiving
the "Palme d'Or" this year, with the other
possibilities being "O brother where art thou?" by
the Coen brothers, "Bread and Roses" by Ken
Loach and "Untitled" by Hong Kong director Wong
Kar-Wei.

Five Icelandic movies are being screened at the
Cannes Film Festival: "Angels of the Universe,"
"Fíaskó," "101 Reykjavík," "Lord of Darkness" and
"The Honour of the House." Icelandic films are said
to profit from the recent popularity of Danish and
Swedish films, especially in the light of "Dancer in
the Dark."
