GrapeflyShepherds Bush Empire 12th and 13th of November 1997

What a concept!

A voice, 8 string-players and a person with electronic gadgets!

What a concert!

And it works. These concerts were among the best ever seen. The unorthodox line-up makes a Björk concert today one of the most refreshing and challenging moments in pop history. The emotion is there. The Icelandic String Octet give it all they can, and Mark Bell supplies the perfect beats and noises.

On this page you see some small glimpses from these shows, it might not tell the whole story but certainly give some sense what a Björk concert looks like today.

As for an eye-witness account of the evening, here is how D.J.Eve describes it:

Subject: Shepherds Bush concert

Saw Björk last night at Shepherds Bush. What an amazing concert. .....There was a good mix of old and new tracks (only solo stuff but hey you can't have everything..) and she rarely kept still for a second with hare arms waving , hands clenching and darting around the stage. It'd make an excellent video ....

The light show during Jóga was amazing, with a rippling effect over the back sheet, and was generally good throughout- though during Hunter you were blinded briefly by the red searchlight....

Personally I don't think much of Pluto as an album track, but live it is mind-blowing. In fact all the tracks sounded much more alive when they were played live.

She only played for about 1hr 10 minutes, but it was one of the most amazing 1hr 10's ever. Even if you have to sell your grandmother and fly across the world I'd recommend going... I almost wish I'd gone the night before too...

All in all an excellent gig.
